Trailer | The Battle Up The Hill: Breaking The Poverty Cycle In SW China

For decades, Butuo County in the hinterland of Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan Province was the poster child for extreme poverty in China. Adversities were manifold: geographical remoteness, marginalization, and a double epidemic of drugs and HIV. Economic and social development was also late to arrive in the area. China’s decades-long anti-poverty campaign has made notable achievements nationwide. And while progress in Butuo has been palpable, it’s been slow and difficult. Does the hilly county have what it takes to break free from its shackles? For the answer, tune in for CGTN’s “The Battle Up The Hill” documentary, premiering on September 28.
