Sri Lanka faces economic crisis, foreign reserves fall; Will India assist its neighbour? | Latitude

In this episode of Latitude, Maroof Raza discusses another important neighbour of India, which is Sri Lanka and the economic crisis that the country is facing. Sri Lanka has been a close aide to India and is now looking up for assistance from India, primarily for policy issues, which has now created a foreign exchange crisis in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka’s foreign reserves have fallen to $2.8 Billion at the end of July and the Sri Lankan Rupee has lost more than 20% of its value since 2019. It has also come to light that Sri Lanka now needs $100 Million each month to import food essentials in the country.

To discuss the economic crisis of Sri Lanka elaborately, Maroof Raza is joined by Sathiya Moorthy, and General Ashok Mehta.
