Additional safeguards will be put in place as the government moves to digitalise the making of the Lasting Power of Attorney. These include interviewing the donor, if there are grounds to suspect that fraud and undue pressure was used. More than 40,000 people are expected to appoint someone to make decisions for them should they lose mental capacity. Proposals to enable LPAs to be done electronically were introduced in Parliament on May 10. The Social and Family Development Ministry said this will reduce registration to eight working days from the current three weeks.
