‘Enlarged heart’, not knee, caused Floyd’s death: Defence expert

The lawyers defending ex-Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin at his trial for the death of George Floyd while in police custody have called a forensic pathologist to the stand.
Dr David Fowler said Floyd’s cause of death was because of pre-existing heart disease, and that he believes the condition was made worse as Floyd inhaled fumes from a police car.
His findings contradict prosecution witnesses – including the medical examiner who performed the autopsy on Floyd.
They say he was starved of oxygen by having Chauvin’s knee pressed on his neck for more than nine minutes.

Al Jazeera’s Shihab Rattansi reports from Brooklyn Center in the US state of Minnesota.
