White House: Not optimistic lawmakers can reach deal in short term on relief package

Global #COVID19 cases are nearing 18 million. In the U.S., lawmakers remain in a standoff over a new relief package. The White House said Sunday it’s not optimistic in the short term a deal can be reached. Democrats and Republicans in Congress are debating an extension of unemployment benefits that provided an extra 600 U.S. dollars a week. And Dr. Deborah Birx, one of the White House’s top health experts, said the outbreak in the U.S. has entered a new phase. She also said the virus is “extraordinarily widespread” in rural and urban areas.
