Dozens of Women Clash with Police Over Abortion Issue

Dozens of women dressed in black clashed with riot police Friday, July 31, in Mexico City in a demonstration of support for a woman’s right to an abortion.
The gathering was organized by feminist groups after Mexico’s Supreme Court declined to rule on a case that would have allowed women to exercise their right to a legal abortion.
Mostly dressed in black, wearing masks and pro-choice green handkerchiefs, the women held banners and chanted against the court’s decision.
On Wednesday the court sidestepped the issue of abortion entirely by rejecting an injunction issued by a judge on technical grounds.
