Mumbai rains: 1 killed, 5 trapped in Malvani chawl collapse, rescue operations underway

Amid heavy rain lashing in Mumbai, a three-storey Chawl building collapsed in Malvani in the Malad area. The unfortunate incident occurred around 2:30 pm today since then disaster management relief teams have rushed to the site. The current death toll stands at 1, while 5 people are trapped in the debris in the wreckage. The rescue operations have been launched by the local authorities, however, Mumbai’s municipal body, BMC is yet to issue a formal statement on what has caused the disaster. Times Now’s principal correspondent Aruneel Sadadekar brings details from the ground on the status of the rescue operations and the injured people. This is the fourth such incident occurring in the city in the last 24 hours.
