EU court strikes down US data sharing deal over protection issues, ‘big blow to data transfers’

European Union’s highest court has struck down a data sharing deal between the Union and the United States, a move which could have huge consequences for the World’s biggest tech companies. The European Court of Justice was ruling on a complaint by Austrian privacy activist Max Schrems against Facebook. The judgement says the protection of data in the US are not high enough to meet European standards. “This is a big blow”, Patrice Navaro, lawyer at Hogan Lovells, tells FRANCE 24.
