Texas could become one of the states worst affected by coronavirus after it was among the first to lift lockdown measures.

Its governor has ordered most residents to wear face coverings in public spaces in response to mounting pressure from local authorities struggling with a surge in COVID-19 infections.

The state hit a record of more than 8,000 virus cases in a day on Wednesday, up from about 2,400 two weeks ago.
