Labour Shadow Cabinet Office Minister Rachel Reeves says the government have “failed in the commitments” made to parents and the country to bring all primary school pupils back before the end of the summer term.

“Frankly, I don’t know what the education secretary has been doing for the last three months,” she told Sky’s Sophy Ridge.

She has accused ministers of being “asleep at the wheel” and says the government is trying to blame others for their “failure”.
