Karnataka Vivekananda statue row escalates as BJP government responds to Congress allegations

The BJP government in Karnataka had made the decision to erect a 120 feet tall Swami Vivekananda statue in the state to boost tourism. The government said that it was inspire by Gujarat’s Statue of Unity. A controversy erupted when the Congress party lashed out at the State saying its priorities amid a pandemic were misplaced. The issue has escalated as the BJP has responded to the allegations saying that the Congress party only values Jawaharlal Nehru as an icon. The Congress has maintained that it values public money amid a pandemic which should be used constructively and for healthcare infrastructure and supply. It has said, its opposition to the statue has nothing to do with the icon itself.
