India records the highest spike of 7,466 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours

In the last 24 hours, India recorded its biggest spike yet in COVID-19 confirmed cases. 7,466 new Coronavirus cases were reported in the last 24 hours with 175 deaths. The total number of positive cases in the country now stands above the 1,65,000 mark with 89,987 active cases. As of now, over 71,000 people have been cured or discharged from hospitals. The metropolitan cities like Delhi and Mumbai continue to be the primary point of concern for the government and health officials registering more than a thousand cases yesterday. Other hotspots include Chennai, Kolkata and Gurugram which contributed significantly to the tally. The spike in the number of cases comes just as the country is coming to the end of the fourth phase of the nationwide lockdown.
