Donald Trump signs executive order challenging liability protection of Twitter

United States President Donald Trump slammed Twitter after the social media fact-checked one of his Tweets about voting and elections. The president claims that the move was unprecedented and accused Twiter of “unchecked power.” He has now signed an executive order challenging the laws which protect social media giants from liability. Trump further alleged that Twitter’s editorial decisions were politically motivated. Twitter and Facebook are protected under the Communications Decency Act passed in 1996 as the companies are not treated as publishers of content. They are treated as platforms which hold user-generated content with minimum intervention of the company’s personal views.
