The Madras High Court has clarified that the niece and nephew of Jayalalithaa, the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu are the legal heirs to her property and all other assets worth 1000 crores. The decision is a set back to the state government which had wanted to turn the politician’s Poes Garden residence into a memorial. The decision comes in line with the Hindu succession act, as the politician has no direct next of kins as she was unmarried. A few days back, Deepa and Deepak Jayraman were identified as class two heirs, however, a clarification on the judgement by the court today has identified the two as legal heirs to inherit all assets.
