Jammu, May 18: Corona crisis and the continuous lockdown have brought out lesser-seen compassionate side of police in the public domain.

Displaying soft side, Jammu and Kashmir Police is reaching out to kids in Nagrota area. Men in khaki are often seen distributing indoor games among kids to encourage ‘stay-at-home’ message.

These days sight of a policeman on their doorstep is enough to bring a smile on the faces of youngsters. Often kids after receiving their special gift, reciprocate by saying: “Love you uncle.” This loving gesture of children is enough to bring a smile on faces of cops too.

What led police to come out with this innovative idea? “Often kids unmindful of Corona crisis keep loitering around. This way they expose themselves to killer Corona. To keep them indoors we came out with this idea,” explains Mohan Sharma, SDPO Nagrota.

This two-pronged strategy seems to be working. By doing so police are not only channelising energy of kids in the right direction but also helping them cope boredom.

“During lockdown 2.0 and 3.0 we tried to encourage people for adhering to guidelines. Now we are involving them in a constructive way,” expresses SDPO Nagrota.

Compassionate, cooperative and considerate are the words which people of Nagrota say would like to use to define behaviours of JK police.

Corona crisis has led one to see the soft side of a man donning a khaki uniform. Police while cracking down on violators day in and day out have also come up with innovative punishments to teach them a lesson.

In several places, they can be seen singing songs and holding up placards, only to request people to stay at home and avoid risking their lives as well as the people around them. Watch as Times Now correspondent Pradeep Dutta brings more detail!
