Mother and newborn leave hospital after beating COVID-19

A British mother who was told of a 50 percent survival chance and her newborn baby were discharged from the hospital after fighting COVID-19. Kathrine Dawson, 36, was 32 weeks pregnant when she contracted the virus and was later sedated and put on a ventilator. Her family was unable to visit her at the time.

Her baby Ruby Dawson was delivered on April 1 by cesarean section and was born with coronavirus, making her one of the rare cases of babies born with the virus. The pair was discharged after 37 days in the hospital. On the way out, they were met with NHS staff and applause from hospital workers who lined the hospital’s corridor.
