Health authorities in NSW have confirmed 40 new coronavirus infections, bringing the state’s total to 307.

Another 28 cases of COVID-19 have been found in Victoria, as Premier Daniel Andrews announces $437 million to provide more beds and equipment, and to open up new medical facilities to deal with the pandemic.

Local government elections and two state by-elections are still slated to go ahead, but the Queensland Government now has the power to postpone them under laws that went through Parliament last night.
