Coronavirus death toll climbs to 9 as virus adapts and mutates, Brisbane man cleared | ABC News

Australian health authorities are on high alert for a deadly new strain of coronavirus.

There are concerns it is now adapting and mutating. The death toll from this new strain has risen to nine.

There are more than 400 confirmed infections including the first case in the United States.

Australian Border Force has been authorised to isolate people at airports if they show any signs of infection.

Australia’s chief medical officer says the virus has “pandemic potential.”

The first direct flight from Wuhan in China since the heightened alert arrives in Sydney tomorrow and all passengers will undergo bio-security screening.

The Prime Minister says Australia’s hospital system is ready if there were to be a local outbreak.
