Australian GPs admit prescribing 'active placebos' — real drugs that won't help | ABC News

A new survey of Australian GPs reveals 77 per cent have given patients a treatment they knew wouldn’t directly combat their illness, including water-based injections and unnecessary antibiotics.
While that rate might seem high, doctors say in many cases placebo treatments can – and do – make patients feel better.
