Turkey has continued its military operation in northeast Syria.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says the offensive – which began with air raids on Wednesday – aims to remove Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) fighters from the border area to create a “safe zone” so millions of Syrian refugees can be returned.
Heavy clashes between Turkish forces and the SDF are under way in the Syrian border towns.
The SDF has appealed to the US and its allies for a “no-fly zone” to protect it from Turkish air attacks.
