Hong Kong police have taken two protesters into custody for defying the face mask ban, making them the first two people to be charged under the new law criminalizing their use during demonstrations.
The protesters are the first two people to be charged under the new law. Outside the Eastern Magistrates’ Court, supporters used umbrellas to protect the protestors’ identities outside the courthouse. The ban on face masks has helped fuel days of violent protests in Hong Kong.
