Two years after a teenage surfer was killed in a shark attack near Esperance in Western Australia, new research is exploring ways to improve beach safety.

Researchers are using underwater microphones to stalk great white sharks with the aim of finding out when and where they are moving in waters frequented by swimmers and surfers.
