Twenty-four-year-old Tabrez Ansari died four days after a mob attacked him on June 17 this year at Jharkhand’s Saraikela, 130 km from the state capital Ranchi. He was beaten after being tied to an electricity pole on suspicion of stealing a motorcycle. In videos of the incident, people who attacked him are heard forcing him to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’. Eleven people were arrested in the case and one surrendered to the police. The police have dropped charges of murder and filed a case, accusing them of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
