As well as space exploration, NASA does world leading research into the earth and its climate.
Part of that looks at sea ice at the north and south poles.
NASA’s team has been baffled by a dramatic decline in sea ice levels in Antarctica, revealed by the latest satellite analysis.
Climatologist Claire Parkinson at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Centre outside Washington has been researching sea ice for more than 40 years. She led the study and spoke to Tracy Bowden.
