After days of unrest and street protests in Hong Kong, the city’s government under Chief Executive Carrie Lam has climbed down. It has announced it will indefinitely suspend a proposed law that would have allowed people to be extradited to mainland China. The bill caused widespread concern that it would threaten Hong Kong’s rule of law and status as a financial hub.
