Amnesty International has condemned the Bahraini regime for revoking the citizenship of nearly 140 people.
The rights group said the sentences issued by a Bahraini court are outrageous and blatantly violate international law. On Monday, the court also sentenced the defendants to between three years and life in prison. A prosecutor, in a statement, accused the defendants of establishing a terror cell in the kingdom. All those convicted are the members of the majority Shia community. According to a local N-G-O, this is the largest sentencing since the regime began revoking the nationalities of dissidents in 20-12. It says nearly one thousand people have been stripped of their citizenship since then, including 180 this year.
