Lawmakers in Britain’s House of Commons have voted in favor of delaying the Brexit deadline beyond March 29.

The motion instructs Prime Minister Theresa May to seek an extension to Article 50, the legal process under which Britain is leaving the European Union. The MPs, however, voted against an amendment that calls for a second Brexit referendum. Any extension to Brexit would need the unanimous consent of European Union member states. E-U leaders are expected to discuss the issue at a regular European Council meeting in Brussels which is scheduled for next week.
