Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev says he understands Russia would remain under the pressure of American economic sanctions.
But he also told a conference in Sochi that the move would not crush Russia’s economy.
The remarks on Thursday came a day after the U.S. Senate introduced a bill to impose new sanctions on Russia’s banking, energy and foreign debt.
The move is seen as retaliation for what Washington calls the Kremlin’s meddling in the U.S. elections and Russia’s aggression in Ukraine.
