Lyon and Norway striker Ada Hegerberg won the first women’s Ballon d’Or after setting a record with 15 goals in the Champions League. After picking up the prestigious award, Hegerberg was asked by DJ and co-host Martin Solveig if she could do a suggestive dance known as “twerking”. He later apoligized, but the question provoked plenty of reaction. Tennis Star Andy Murray wrote on Instagram that it was “another example of ridiculous sexism that still exists in sports”, and asked why “women still have to put up with” this kind of behaviour. Another user pointed out that a woman finally gets a Ballon d’Or and its first winner “has to face this nonsense”, while noting that her male counterpart Luka Modrich was not asked the same question.
